workshop with invited resident artists lucky pierre

Light Box curators Corey and Stefanie are delighted to bring Invited Resident Artists Lucky Pierre back to Detroit, six years after they shared their moving social practice performance project "Final Meals".

Chicago-based art collective Lucky Pierre will lead a performance and writing workshop. Using topics taken from their performance “FUTURE. PERFECT”, participants will work through a series of exercises resulting in short performances and presentations. The workshop will be collaborative in nature, using writing, performance and discussion to explore generative techniques that can be deployed in participants’ individual creative and life practices. All are welcome! No prior experience with performance or writing required.

Suggested donation $8-20 sliding scale (no one turned away for lack of funds).

**Lucky Pierre will also perform their work "Future. Perfect." at Light Box on Saturday night, 4/11 at 8pm**

DanceAbilityTM is movement improvisation for everybody, including people with disabilities and people with and without formal dance training. Come discover how you want and need to move--and re-invent dance--in an inspiring community full of possibilities! Since this is a class with people participating consistently, we will have a chance to go deeper with the work and our fellow participants as we sense, move and play together.

Lead facilitator Cara Graninger is a DanceAbility Method instructor and dance improviser who facilitates dance classes, workshops and performances including movers with disabilities. Joel Haines, Somatic Movement Educator, is helping Cara facilitate, drawing on his dance and somatic experience and DanceAbility training.

***Sometimes gaining access to something that has barriers or trauma attached (like dance!) can be difficult. If requested in RSVP by one or more participants by February 24th, we'll have an emotional support person from Healing By Choice present for the class series to provide extra emotional support to anyone who might be struggling with emotions like grief, anger, anxiety, or overwhelming joy.

***We will have ASL interpretation on site if requested in RSVP by February 24th

future. perfect.

Light Box curators Corey and Stefanie are pleased to be bringing Invited Resident Artists Lucky Pierre back to Detroit six years after they shared their moving social practice performance project "Final Meals".

Lucky Pierre's "Future. Perfect" is a collaborative multimedia performance, sales pitch, dance party, lecture, crypto-currency launch event in the age of computing and chaos.

Fantastical embedded algorithms, surveillance, digital and financial systems, and some adorable queer forest creatures welcome you to the end of the world. An end of the world that might be utopia or maybe just a trip to Costco.

Suggested donation $10-15

These groups are offered virtually, via Zoom through 5/1

Moving stories groups in Authentic movement

Two guided peer groups for artists, educators, and healing artists connecting us to our bodies, our creative impulse, and to our own vulnerability and power.

These somatic explorations -- an interplay of embodiment, contemplation, creativity, and mystery -- supports us to consider how best we can listen and be in service to our art, students, families and clients, and how to remain clear, resourced, and grounded ourselves.

Sessions include arrival, check-in, a guided collaborative creation of the afternoon's structure, moving & witnessing in Authentic Movement, opportunities for exploration with art materials, sharing & response, and closure.

Please, contact Stefanie directly with questions regarding prior experience or ways to acquire it, with requests to join or opt in on occasion and to receive the Zoom link.
